Fjords (pronounced "Fee-ords") are characterized
by their buckskin coloring, with a black dorsal stripe running
down their backs through mane and tail. The mane and tail are bordered
by white hair with inner black hair. Their build is compact, stocky,
and extremely strong for their size; their heights range between
13 and 15 hands.
Fjords are agile and sure-footed in difficult terrain, being
inherently a mountain horse from the Fjords of Norway. These
horses are well-suited to any situation, be it riding, pack,
draft, or driving. They have a lot of heart, are easy to handle,
are not easily spooked, and they try to cooperate with their
handlers. They learn fast, are very friendly and love attention.
Their gentle nature makes them a great family horse, as well
as a pleasure for the single owner that expects a lot of performance.
We've owned, used and raised fjords for 20 years, and wouldn't
trade them for any other horse.
Be sure to see them by the bakery, or at Stehekin Valley Ranch,
while you are in Stehekin.
